As marketers, we often discuss the importance of measuring what you want to improve. That is why the science side of marketing is crucial, especially in business. When you know and understand the data driving your business, you make better decisions and pave the way for growth and improvement that will drive your business further.
One powerful marketing science tool you can use to test your campaigns is A/B testing. It’s a simple tool that compares two versions of a marketing element(layout, text, ad, email, etc.) to make impactful marketing decisions.
Few Benefits of A/B Testing:
Data-Driven Decisions – Decisions can be made about a variation of the marketing element based on actual data on which version of the component performs the best
Optimize Conversion Rate: You can evaluate which iteration of the testing connects better with your audience and leads to better conversions, such as more sign-ups, click-throughs, and sales.
Improved User Experience: This allows you to see what designs, layouts, content, imagery, etc. resonate best with your target audience, allowing you to create more user-friendly experiences.
Common Elements to A/B Test:
Headlines: Variations of headlines can impact click-through rates.
Call-to-Actions: The wording and placement of your call-to-action can influence conversions.
Images: Different types of images can evoke different emotions and reactions.
Copy: The language and tone of the content can influence engagement.
I often use A/B Testing in my agency, Jules Management Group, when running Facebook ads. I had a client who had a rising luxury clothing line. I wanted to build awareness for the line using a promo video. I wanted to test which promo video would give me the best clickthrough rate. One video was a video of different celebrities and influencers wearing the line, and the second video was this amazing video of the brand’s origin that showcased black creators who launched the brand.
As much as I thought the story of origin would play on the audience’s emotions because it was such a beautiful story, after reviewing the A/B testing results, the video with celebrities and influencers wearing the brand had the highest impressions, click-through rate, and conversion for the client. After analyzing the results, we realized it was best to continue to use the “Celebrity/Influencer” ad to drive people to the site. As part of the funnel, use the story of origin in the email drip campaign to educate prospective customers more about the brand.
Get ahead of your competition by testing some of the elements in your marketing. Test your email subject lines, CTAs, and promo videos to see which gives you the best results. By leveraging A/B testing, small businesses can optimize their return on investment, enhance customer satisfaction, and maintain a competitive edge.
